Ron Draper
From a young age, Ron displayed a passion for making small gifts out of timber. After presenting some fine wooden pieces as gifts for friends and relatives, Ron was quickly encouraged to share his talent and thus began to display his wares at local art and craft markets.
His unique pieces drew so much attention he was quickly commissioned to create distinctly Australian wood carvings for several high profile galleries. Over the years Ron’s unique carvings in Camphor Laurel and Red Cedar have become popular and found new homes with many locals and tourists from all over the world.
With a growing confidence in his work, Ron graduated to larger carvings and these pieces have won numerous awards at shows, including several “Grand Champion Ribbons”. Situated on a rural property in Central Queensland, Ron enjoys working in his studio with fine timbers, crafting unique Australiana carvings.
Ron works with many different timbers but mainly favours the grain of Camphor Laurel to add uniqueness to each piece he creates. The much prized and sought after Red Cedar is another favourite, Cedar adds depth and real warmth to his creations.
