KEN HANDS – ARTIST STATEMENT

I Emigrated From London Uk In 1962 At The Age Of Eighteen, Ready For Adventures In Australia. I Worked My Way Around Australia, Taking On A Varity Of Jobs Including Boning At Wyndam Meat Works, Managing A Butchers Shop On Cockatoo Island In The North West, Crocodile Hunting, And Building Fibreglass Boats, From The Small Runabout, To Commercial Fishing Boats, And Luxury Yachts.

Whilst Managing A Yacht Building Factory In The Whitsundays Queensland I Became Involved With Restoring Period And Antique Furniture And From There Started Creating Pieces In Timber From The Rainforest.

I Moved To Western Australia And In 2003 I Joined The W.A. Woodturning Association. I Have Won Many Club Competitions And Have Worked My Way Through The Ranks To “Advanced Level”.

I Have Entered My Work In The Griffin Art Festival In Various Catagories And Classifications, And Have Achieved 6 Firsts, 7 Seconds, And High Commendations.

My Real Love Is Sculpturing Fish, Mammals, And Animals In Wood, Which Gives Me Hours Of Pleasure, And Hopfully I’ve Managed To Create A Piece That Will Give Endless Pleasure To Someone Else.

My Pieces Have Sold Throughout Australia, Usa, And Uk
