Raffaella Creations unites years of experience and knowledge with youth, vitality and freshness. We pride ourselves on thinking outside the box. We use materials that are eco and organic. Rebirthing wool from lost times.
We also use silk, cotton, and linen threads. We spend time sourcing products from WA, finding items in op-shops to save, reuse, rebirth, and recycle and then create original one-off hand made designs. It’s a wonderful thing to utilize/bring back to life some item that someone has made with love for another human being. It is with sheer delight we do this labour of love.
We take pride in supporting and developing Australian products, unpolluted and all produced so that they will leave no unhealthy residue when they have completed their life span.
When launching their brand new label ‘Knido’ last year they wanted to focus on every environmental consideration possible. From using hand-powered machines to sourcing WA grown products and certified organic products, Raffaella and Tamar have thought long and hard about the construction process. Knido transforms old sole beauty to modern contempory effervesance with a hint of abstract imagination.
Raffaella and Tamar choose to focus on natural fibres throughout their Knido pieces. These materials include wool, cotton, silk, and linen. Wool was a big draw for these two talented artists as its list of attributes is lengthy. Being an iconic Australian product for hundreds of years, it was inline with the Basini’s ideals towards sustainability and sourcing from Australia. Wool is a versatile, hardwearing fabric that has been tested time and again as perfect for our bodies. Knido sources wool from WA melainian sheep, WA merino sheep, and WA superfine sheep. “We take pride in supporting and developing Australian grown wool unpolluted and produced so that it will leave no unhealthy residue when they have completed their life span.”
The Basinis recently spent time in Kojanup (in WA’s south west) meeting the farmers of Ronneby Park who produce superfine wool, and meeting the sheep. They were extremely impressed with the consideration and treatment of the superfine sheep. Raffaella and Tamar have researched the manufacturing processes of their materials and chosen the most organic and eco friendly products available.
As well as sourcing new materials Knido also up cycles, recycles, salvages and reconstructs. “Every step we take today is a most important step for the future survival of our planet, our loved ones, and their loved ones.” Raffaella and Tamar spend time deconstructing antique and vintage garments and reusing as much as possible thus creating less than 2% wastage in their business. “It’s a wonderful thing to untilise/bring back to life some item that someone has made with love for another human being. It is with sheer delight we do this labour of love.”
Every piece is hand made by Raffaella and Tamar. They operate hand powered knitting machines, as well as blending hand knitting, hand crocheting and many other techniques to create exquisite, timeless one-off pieces, pieces that are made to last and be enjoyed for many years. Together Raffaella and Tamar mix their equivalent artistic flavours to bring constructivism, texture, form and shape to the style of their work.
Neither of these talented women is a stranger to the fashion and art world. Each has experienced backgrounds in both fields.
