Jennifer Juniper

b. 1960, Australia

I see all of creation as an amazing display of the awesomeness of our creator God. The intimate detail in every created thing shows the work of the master designer, and as I have been created in his image, I also have a desire to create. One of the ways I express this is in art.

My desire is to produce works of art that are detailed, accurate and evoke emotion, art that is beautiful and which lifts the spirit and gives joy to the viewer.

Whether it is flora or fauna, I find there is no end of inspiration to be found among our Australian Wildlife.

Drawing wildlife has given me an appreciation of the wonderful order that is necessary for all species to survive and thrive. Their habits, life cycle and the perfectly balanced environment that is required for species to live, continue to cause me to wonder and ultimately praise the Creator who designed it all.

The themes in my art can vary, but at present I am enjoying drawing wildlife that is found in my corner of the world. I am particularly interested in drawing vulnerable and endangered species, while we still have them.

The medium I use is Polychromos pencil. At times I use ink to accompany it, also gauche, pastel or charcoal. I use reference photographs which I often take myself.

For example, the koala #2 picture is from my own reference photo. I have used pencil predominantly with a little ink on the fur and I feel that it has captured the softness and vulnerability of the animal.

I have developed my own style and method, as I am self taught.

Each piece takes many hours of work, depending on the detail that needs to be built up. There are many layers of colour which is what gives it the softness and realism.

I hope my work gives you pleasure.
