SUZIE HORTON – ARTIST STATEMENT

Profile of Suzie Horton

Born in 1978, Suzie grew up in a rural farming area of NSW.

At an early age, she began drawing and painting under the guidance of her Mother, who was a practicing artist herself.

With the thought of developing new concepts, Suzie travelled parts of oz, worked, wrote, sketched, painted and always attempted to diversify her style…constantly experimenting with new ways of creating art.

Being a person who thrives on change, her style has continued to grow and develop as the years have gone on.

Suzie has created murals, (indoor and out), has been commissioned to produce pet portraits, has illustrated manuals, pamphlets and written and illustrated kids books. She has also created business logos, touched on computer graphic design and sculpted various pieces using mixed mediums.

While she enjoys the discipline of architectural design and perspective drawing, (even producing accurate automotive sketches), Suzie loves using colour and movement, in the hope of encouraging feelings of free-ness and joy.

The artists that have influenced her most, include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Salvador Dali, as they challenge the visual dimensions of physics and philosophy itself.

Suzie’s philosophy is
“ As every moment changes from one second to the next, so does anything within that moment. Time is the master of change, so therefore anything created in that moment is unique, never again to be re- created exact again. We should move with time, not just through it.
Embrace change, embrace the moment.”

Suzie has shared art space with Sue Sowerby, Paul Toggolini, Cashmere Rowe and Steve Peace at AAA galleries in Margaret River.

One of Suzie’s finest achievements to date, was painting a 3 dimensional life sized cow sculpture called ‘Dreams of the Daliesque’ Bovine. Which was involved in the highly esteemed world-wide linked, Margaret River Cow Parade.
The Cow was auctioned and fetched quite a price, with the proceeds going to charity.

Suzie is currently exhibiting artwork at Boranup Gallery and is producing commissioned work on a regular basis.

2011 – Solo Exhibition, Boranup Gallery, Margaret River, W.A – ‘A World Within’
2010 – Awarded 2 Second prizes and two High Commendations in the Margaret River Rural show.
2010 – Participated in the Margaret River Cow Parade with ‘Dreams of the Dali’esque Bovine’ & Auctioned for $7500
