Jude Scott

Jude was born in Perth, Western Australia.
Her childhood was spent growing up on her parent’s farm in the south-west of WA, at Grassmere near Albany. Being surrounded by the beauty of exquisite flora, abundant and diverse fauna Jude developed a deep love of the natural world. This has always influenced her art.
Educated in Albany, music was an early passion, which gave way to sketching. Later, a career in hairdressing, then followed marriage in the early seventies, raising two children with husband Rob.
Creative urges resurfaced and after studying ceramics in two states, which earned her several awards, culminating in an award for ‘exceptional craftsmanship and originality’, Jude produced a variety of ceramics in her studio for a length of time.
Jude then turned to retail, purchased and operated her own business which she ran for a several years, and it was after the sale of this business, that Jude was again involved in the art world.
Travelling through outback Australia for over 25 years with husband Rob has had an enormous influence on Jude’s work. The intensity and clarity of light, dazzling and vibrant colours together with the endless blue skies and vast horizons are evidenced in her paintings. Misty forest bush lands, portraits of intriguing faces, florals and abstracts are also subjects that find a way onto her papers and canvases.
“I love all mediums, but am really passionate about watercolour…..it is exquisite and has a translucency that only watercolour can produce; the soft and hard edges give the most wonderful effect in a painting. It can produce a dramatic and moody atmosphere or amazing colours within a single, delicate brush stroke. Watercolour is also the most difficult medium to handle and the artist often hovers somewhere between triumph and despair” says Jude.
Jude has taught watercolour for the past 5 years at Atwell Gallery, Alfred Cove, W.A. and lately at the Claremont School of Art. She also runs workshops throughout the year.
