Gary Leathendale

Born in 1961, Gary immigrated to Australia from England in 1982. He has drawn most of his life and has been a full time artist since July 1997. Gary was initially trained by Western Australian artist Larry Mitchell, but is largely self-taught.

Gary is a singularly focused person who is deeply dedicated to his art and artistic self-exploration, and shuns the art world and all its hype. “I would rather sit under a tree or face a full storm with a strapped down easel to paint than open an exhibition”

The dedication to his art and artistic beliefs has seen his works become highly demanded, with private clients and corporations pursuing his works with an ever increasing demand and more recently higher and higher prices being obtained for his pieces.

His working mediums include pastels, charcoals and a variety of mixed mediums. He tends to work mainly creating landscapes, but recent works have included the genre of the nude, which have been very popular.

He is a natural eclectic at heart, which allows him not to be constrained by style and to draw from an infinite array of ideas.
