Colin Montefiore

Colin was born and raised in Lesmurdie in the hills on the outskirts of Perth.
Much to his parents’ distress he began an art career early, drawing freely and often on the walls of his home as a child. Well known West Australian artist Robert Juniper helped develop his talent in a more constructive fashion when Colin attended his art classes as a student at Guildford Grammar.
During the late 1970′s and early 1980′s Colin travelled the world with a backpack, sketchbook, a trusty bicycle, a keen sense of adventure and humour. Avoiding the more heavily populated cities he chose to live in the scenic rural regions of southern France and rural England teaching canoeing and gaining a true sense of the local culture amongst the picturesque landscapes. Colin’s political cartoons and caricatures from this period are now spread all over the world.
Colin returned to Western Australia in 1979 first living in Fremantle before moving to a rural setting in Albany with his wife and three daughters in 1992. Colin’s daughters developed an interest in art which gave him renewed enthusiasm for his own art. During this time Colin has experimented with new styles, ideas and materials developing his cartooning, sketches and painting.
Colin’s art has developed a loyal following with his colourful cartoons and caricatures, beachscapes and outback Australian scenes. Painting most nights in his home studio and on family excursions to beachside destinations and the spectacular north -west, he has developed a the unique style incorporating his own unique humour.
Colin’s art is fun and quirky that takes a unique look at lifestyle, people and places extending these skills to illustrating a children’s book was a natural progression.
Colin has been involved in many group and solo exhibitions, and is currently represented at Boranup Art Gallery.
