Chris Hooper
Christopher showed he had a talent for art in school, but it took a long time to face up to the challenge. After being introduced to oil painting by well known Noosa artist Bill Mc Kay and receiving invaluable mentoring and guidance, he gave up his profession in furniture design and sales in 2002 to concentrate on his painting.
With further knowledge gained from attending courses at the Brisbane Institute of Art and helpful instruction from Olga garner-Morris, Chris held his first exhibition on the Sunshine Coast in September 2005.
His style hovers between realism and impressionism primarily in oils. He is always experimenting
with new techniques producing landscapes, seascapes and figurative paintings reflecting the colours and moods of the Australian coastline.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My challenge is to make my work a catalyst for positive emotions.
Looking at our world through an artist’s eye is truly fascinating. The wonders of light and shadow, texture and colour surround us. We need to take the time to observe. See the way a shadow falls across the sand, the reflection of sky in water or the flicker of light on a single leaf. Simplicity is the key.
