Steve has been working as a metalsmith/artist/teacher since 1986 and is recognized as one of West Australia’s leading metal artists and educators. Shortly after completing his first degree he was awarded a Traineeship to work with master silversmith George Lucas. He worked with George until he completed his Masters Degree in 1993 , at which time he established his own workshop. This time, nurtured his growth as a respected and competent jeweller/metalsmith. Steve exhibits his jewellery and hollow-ware both nationally and internationally. His work has won several awards and been acquired for both private and public collections, the most notable being the Parliament House collection in Canberra.

His influence on the metal community has been extended through his association and Presidency of the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia , W.A. and his teaching. Steve has taught jewellery , metalsmithing and design at various Tafe Colleges since 1987 and was head of the Jewellery Department at the West Coast College of Tafe, Carine.

In 2002 he was one of only 29 regional artists selected to exhibit in “Boundless”, at the Art Gallery of W.A. and in 2003 the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery purchased one of his pieces for their permanent collection.

Steve was awarded a Creative Development Fellowship Grant from Arts W.A in 2003 , to research the fusion of slumped glass and metal. The grant concluded in 2004 with two solo exhibitions titled “Landlines” , work inspired by the landscape around Margaret River and translated into the slumped glass and metal panels and objects.

In 2007 he was selected to participate in the “Designing Futures Project”, an initiative by Form to nurture the development of new and innovative designs by established artists. The project concluded with the “Evolve” exhibition in Bunbury and “Evolving” exhibition in Perth.

Steve is currently designing new work for several public art projects and educating a new generation of metalsmiths through teaching for Tafe and a studio based program in jewellery and glass slumping.
