FINNS CREATIONS – ARTIST STATEMENT
Bob a retired Boilermaker-Welder from the SouthWest, who was bored with retirement (especially during our long winters) and decided he needed a hobby.
In 2004 a mate knowing his background, asked him to craft some stainless steel fish for his outdoor area. ‘It was an interesting challenge coming up with the designs and material to do the job, all the time making sure that I was getting the best impact from each piece’.
Since my mates commission, the ‘hobby’ has progressed. I now also make fish which I colour. Most of my fish are crafted from 1.2 mm 316 Stainless steel and are suitable for outdoors. However once coloured, they go from being suitable for outdoors to only being suitable for indoors – as the colours tend to run, when they come into contact with the elements.
Each piece is unique as they are hand cut and shaped with heating and therefore it is impossible to replicate the same colours and exact shape.
Commissions are welcome – Bob will happily make fish or other animals to any customers specifications..
