Belinda Kay
For the past twenty years Belinda Kay has used her artistic flair with hair and dress styling to fund extensive on going study of interior design, textiles, all craft processes and fine arts.
After gaining her Diploma Art & Design (Interior Design) in 1998 and working as a design consultant and project manager, Belinda took up a position as Exhibition Curator and Gallery Manager for the Old Bakery Gallery in Maylands.
In her seven years at the gallery Belinda was responsible for the enthusiastic promotion of some of Western Australia’s finest artists through the curation of some 78 exhibitions. Her flair for presentation and encouragement of emerging artists brought the gallery to the attention of many new art lovers.
Belinda has made a point of continued participation in a wide range of art work shops so that she can study the processes involved with a view to being better able to understand and promote all forms of fine arts expression.
In 2007 Belinda completed her third year units for her Bachelor of Arts / Fine Art at Curtin University, majoring in studio glass and graduated with Honours. She currently is the Manager of the Art Glass Studio which specialises in the supply of studio glass and art glass tuition.
Belinda has exhibited her work at the Old Bakery Gallery, Gallery East and Perth Galleries, Tasmanian Furnace Exhibition, the inaugural Environmental Art Awards, Swan City Art Awards and Boranup Gallery.
Outside of the studio and her own work Belinda is a lively supporter of the Western Australian arts community. She was the head curator for the inaugural Artists in Arms Exhibition which presented close to 600 art pieces and closed two weeks later with sales in excess of $90,000. As well as maintaining her links with the AIA charitable foundation Belinda has been involved with art judging for the Bayswater and Stirling City Councils, and the “As We Are” Exhibition promoting the artwork of the intellectually handicapped. She was also the curator of the Association’s 2007 exhibition at the Alexander Library.
