Danica Wichtermann

Within her work Danica explores the notion of the usually unseen world, and examines the internal psychological emotional states, the hidden essences, and elements and beliefs which affects it.

Danica believes that while we are busily manipulating our various images and identities to fit expectations, we are unaware of other unseen and forgotten roles and aspirations we might explore.

“We look past ourselves yet try to find ourselves, not realising the truth lies within us.”

These reflections influence her work, and using the vessel form as a metaphor for the body she plays with the idea of concealing, revealing and looking beyond the everyday.

This is portrayed through a shift between glazed and unglazed surfaces as well as through altering textures and tonal colours in her ceramic objects. The contrast of surfaces and use of curves encourages the eye to explore the differences of the internal and external bodies.

She invites the viewer to interrogate and experience a transformative moment through the unveiling of the unseen, which may be repressed or undisclosed. So look, explore, experience and transform.
